1How LED Strip Lights are made?

As a factory and manufacturer of LED lights, here we will show how LED strips actually are made in our factory.

The whole production process :

  • 1. Solder paste printing
  • 2. SMT chip mounting
  • 3. reflow soldering
  • 4. wielding
  • 5. aging
  • 6. waterproofing
  • 7. inspection
  • 8. packaging
  • 1Solder paste printing: we use lead-free solder paste.

  • 2LED chip mounting: owning high speed chip mounter and multi-functional chip mounter, can largely meet your demand of flex and rigid strips at any customized length, like 2meters for rigid strip.

  • 3Reflowd soldering:d a process of melting, joining and solidification of two coated metal layers byd applicationd of heatd to thed surfaced andd pre-depositedd solderd paste.

  • 4Wielding process: After the above 3 processes, semi-finished goods will be sent to for connector or wire wielding.

  • 5Aging process: It’s a process that turn on the strip lights for 12 hours to check the lighting effect.

  • 6Next step is waterproofing if the strips are required to be IP65, IP68 etc. After aging, strips will be moved to glue room for waterproofing. We are equipped with automatic glue machine. For special custom products, we also have hand-made waterproofing.

  • 7Inspection: after waterproofing, our QC will have 100% full inspection on each piece of LED strip light.

  • 8Packaging: LED strip lights will be packed in anti-static bags.

2How to Reduce the Influence of Voltage Drop on LED Strip Light?

First, let’s figure out what is “Voltage Drop”. Voltage drop means gradual loss of voltage source on the strip when electric current mover go through the electrical circuit. This probably will cause uneven brightness of the strip light, if the strip light are too long, like over 5 meters.

So how to reduce the influence of voltage drop, when the strip is too long (over 5 meters)? Here we provide our proposals:

  1. Make the PCB board wider or thicker
  2. Both ends of the strip light are connected with power supply
  3. Change DC12V into DC 24V
  4. Install amplifiers to the led strip light, which only works for double color strip, RGB and RGBW strip

The above proposals can allow larger and more even electric current pass through the circuit from the beginning to the end of strips, which can help ensure enough brightness of led strips. Our engineers will make a specific solution for your project.

3What is IP Rating?

For led flexible strips, generally there is IP20, IP65, IP66/67, IP68

IP20: non-waterproof

IP65: surface injection (PU glue / epoxy glue /silicone)

IP66/67: silicone tube

IP68: whole injection

What do these IP grades mean?

IP means Ingress Protection, and classifies the degree of protection provided on an article against water, dust and accidental contact etc.

The IP protection level is set by two Numbers. The first digit indicates the level of protection against dust and the intrusion of foreign objects.

The second digit indicates the degree of density of moisture and waterproofing intrusion, and the higher the number, the higher the protection level.

4What about the package of LED strip light?

Generally, we have 3 types of package for LED strip:

1. Anti-static bags package

For anti-static bags package, it can be neutral white sticker on the bags. Showed below. Or the white sticker can be changed into color printing sticker, your logo can be printed on the stickers.

2. Double blister package

Double blister + nice color card inside

3. Color box or gift box package

Double blister/color box package for LED strip is very popular on the market, especially for retail chain stores and supermarkets. Perfect for retailing.

The advantages of blister/color box package:

  1. Blister provide product with good protection
  2. Beautiful design and appearance, can be perfectly displayed on the shelf in front of the customers, which promote sales
  3. Raising the brand image and product value; enhancing company or brand’s recognition

5Various LED density of LED Flexible Strip for your choice

LED strip, generally, is 30LEDs/M, 60LEDs/M, 120LEDs/M. But Smile LED provide LED strip with various LED density.
From high density to common density to low density, the power or lumen will be different based on the LED density.
And we can custom the product for you!

For the same SMD model, higher density, greater brightness and higher power.
Sometimes, you might want super bright LED strip for some specific projects. High density strip could be a good choice.

For example,
2835 led strip in 120LEDs/M, or 168LEDs/M, or 240LEDs/M
2216 led strip in 120LEDs/M or 240LEDs/M
2014 led strip in 300LEDs/M ...

Besides, we can meet you specific demand of unusual types like
2835 led strip in 66LEDs/M, or 126LEDs/M
3528 led strip in 96LEDs/M, or 120LEDs/M
335 side view strip in 48LEDs/M...

6Could led strip be bent into 90 degree or less?

LED strip has strong flexibility, under the condition that it’s bent in a right way. Our suggestion is that they should be bent into an angle of at least 45° or more. Please look below picture. And it should be bent in a appropriate way like the left one.

If you try to bend the strip in an angle of less than 180°, and make it in one flat plane. It won’t work like the right one.

To solve this problem, we provide three proposals:

  1. Using the T-shape connector

    LED strips can be bent into a right-angle (90°).

  2. Using the jump wire connector

    With this connector, you can bent the strip into any angle like 15°, 30°, 45° etc. No limitation.

  3. Using S-shape LED strip

    We have bendable 2835 S-shape led strip. Beside free angle bending, it can be fixed on the uneven surface. Without any connector, S strip can be bent into any shape you like. Its PCB board is designed to have strong folding endurance. Bending won’t damage the lighting performance.

7What is the benefit of high CRI LED strips?

Every type of light source renders colors differently. CRI (Color Rendering Index) is a scale from 0 to 100 percent measures how accurate the light source is at showing true colors. Higher CRI value means higher match of sunlight (being CRI 100) and also influence our color perception. Since color perception may probably decides our opinion of goods, whether we buy them or not, many retail environments require the best CRI properties.

Light and the use of lighting effect affects fundamentally our perception of a space. Our CRI 90+ SMD2835, SMD2216 and SMD2014 LED strips ensure proper and satisfied illumination.

8What is Smile Lighting lead time?

Usually if standard items, 3-5 days lead time for sample and we will ship bulk order within 10-15 working days. In case of heavy production burden or customized items, it may take a little longer time.

9Would it be possible to connect pieces of strips without soldering?

Usually we manufacture LED flexible strips in 5 meters per reel. But if you prefer to cut the strips where necessary, you can make any connections without the need for soldering. That is to say, by using our solderless strip connector.

Three types soldless strip connectors can be for your choice:

  • • Tape-to-tape connector

    How to use:

    Firstly, open up the fold-over clip of one side;
    Then slide the the first strip into the open clip;
    Do the same thing to the other side with the second strip;
    Close these two clips;
    Make sure the positive and negative pads are lined up with each other.

    Availability: 2 pin; 4 pin and 5 pin version are available. That means they are suitable for all LED strips.

  • • Starter-lead connector

    How to use:

    Firstly, open up the fold-over clip
    Then slide the the strip into the open clip;
    Close the clip;
    Make sure the positive and negative pads correctly corresponding to red-black wire

    Availability: one side of this connector connects strip and another side (i.e. red-black wire, DC plug) is attached to power supply. Easily to light up this strip.

  • • Flexible-link connector

    How to use:

    Open up the fold-over clips
    Insert the two strips into either side
    Reseal the clips

    Availability: The fully-flexible cable allow these two strips to bend around when necessary.

10What is voltage drop? And how can I fix this problem with my CCT strip light?

In DC circuits, voltage drop gradually drops as electric current moves through long length of LED strip light. This can lead to one end of your strip lights being brighter than the other end.

CCT controller makes the colors changes. It basically sends out a signal to control the lights.
Some customers may need several reels (5M/Reel) of dual color LED strips running continuous longer distances to suit for their lighting applications. If someone wants control all reels CCT strip lights at the same time with the same colors, he will need to transfer the signal from the first run to the second. Otherwise, LED strip sections that are far away from its transformer are not as bright as the head of the strip. So an amplifier is needed to transform the signal from the first run to the second. (the installation program as following)

11Choosing suitable plug types:

As some customers may need accessories (i.e. power supply) except our strips and under cabinet light bars, we can provide suitable plug for every power supply. Please find respective plug types of different countries as follows. If you can’t find the one you want, just feel free to contact our sales team.

12What about Smile Lighting warranty?

We offer 2, 3 and 5 year’s limited warranty for different kinds of products or different requirements of lighting projects. During this period, if customers have the proof showing quality issues and that proof is approved by Smile Lighting engineers, we would like to replace the defective ones with new qualified items.

Please note that warranty is not equal to lifespan. Our products have more than 50000-hour long lifespan.
